Before purchasing a parrot, we should take a moment to think about what we actually want.

1. Don't make an impulsive purchase - YOU DON'T HAVE A PARROT FOR JUST A PERIOD ... BUT FOR YOUR WHOLE LIFE

2. Get enough information about what life with a parrot means. The handling, feeding and behavior can vary from species to species

(don't think that a African Gray has the same needs as a cockatoo or eclectus).

3. Parrots are very sensitive to changes under stress - this can even affect their immune system, causing them to become ill

or show behavioral problems (especially picking behavior and screaming)

4. A parrot has the intelligence of a 4-year-old child and therefore requires a lot of attention . Are you in the possibility to give him this

attention? Do you want a bird in a cage, hoping it will talk someday, or do you want a friend?

5. A parrot likes to sit high (uncertainty) and will always try to sit on your shoulder. There is nothing wrong with this if you trust the

animal 100% and he trusts you too. If this is not the case you are in danger of being bitten and your ears, eyes, nose and  cheek are

    very close.

6. Are there other pets that might cause problems?

7. Do you or one of your housemates perhaps have an allergy to birds?

8. Can you provide "shelter" if you go on holiday or become ill?

9. A parrot gets very old. What happens to your bird when you die?

Eclectus

The eclectus is the only parrot found in Australia and the surrounding islands. The female is red and the male is green. Specifically here is that the female is dominant to the male and you can also see that in the tame birds.

The females are a bit more agressive and require more attention than the male. With proper treatment, an eclectus is super sweet. Only they can be stubborn. They do what they want to do and not what you want.

The diet of a noble parrot consists of seeds and lots of fruits and vegetables. No egg food because it can cause plaque in the veins. Do not give colored pellets either.

They love a bath. So be sure to provide bath water (preferably not in the shower).

An eclectus can also talk very well.

They are the ideal birds for allergy sufferers, because they do not give off dust.

Ducorps cockatoo

This cockatoo comes from the Solomon Islands near Australia. It is one of the smaller cockatoos. As food you give a poor parrot mixture with dried fruits and regularly fresh fruit and vegetables. A nut is also appreciated.

These cockatoos are very sweet and affectionate, but can also react agressive if something is not to their liking.

They demand quite a lot of attention and can show behavioral problems if they don't get it. Provide plenty of toys and foraging material so they can keep themselves entertained in your absence.

Caution: Cockatoos are rodents. Keep them away from furniture and window frames when you're away from them.

In the absence of attention, they can start screaming. They also give quite a lot of dust, but regular spraying with water (not showering) can remedy this.

They can say a few words but are not big talkers

Alba cockatoo

This cockatoo comes from the islands of Indonesia.

As food you give a poor parrot mixture with dried fruits and regularly fresh fruit and vegetables. A nut is also appreciated.

Alba cockatoos are the favorites among the domestic birds. They are often seen popping up in movies as real hustlers with the crest up. They are very curious and very affectionate. They love to sit and cuddle with you.

They demand quite a lot of attention and can show behavioral problems if they don't get it. Provide plenty of toys and foraging material so they can keep themselves entertained in your absence.

Caution: Alba cockatoos are destructors. Keep them away from furniture and window frames when you're away from them.

In the absence of attention, they can start screaming. They also give quite a lot of dust, but regular spraying with water (not showering) can remedy this.

Galah cockatoo

A Galah cockatoo lives in the desert regions of Australia and feeds mainly on grass seeds.

Their metabolism ensures that they easily get fat if they eat too rich a diet. In the living room we give them a poor parakeet mixture without sunflower seeds. Preferably also no egg food because this also causes fattening.

They are very sweet and want to be with you. Provide plenty of toys and foraging material so they can keep themselves entertained in your absence.

A Galah cockatoo also gnaws easily. So don't lose sight of them.

They are not noisy birds and an occasional wet spray (don't shower) helps against the dust.

Galah cockatoos are not talkers

Leadbater's cockatoo (Inca)

A leadbeater's cockatoo comes from the arid and semi-arid interior of Australia. With their beautiful pink color and brightly colored crest, they are among the most beautiful of the cockatoos.

As food you give a poor parrot mixture with dried fruits and regularly fresh fruit and vegetables. A nut is also appreciated.

They are very sweet and want to be with you. Provide plenty of toys and foraging material so they can keep themselves entertained in your absence.

Because all cockatoos are rodents, it is advisable to keep them away from furniture and window frames.

They are not noisy birds and an occasional wet spray (don't shower) helps against the dust.

Amazons

All Amazons come from Central and South America.

As food you give a poor parrot mixture with dried fruits and regularly fresh fruit and vegetables. Egg food and a nut are also appreciated.

They are very sweet and want to be with you. Provide plenty of toys and foraging material so they can keep themselves entertained in your absence.

They can be noisy and show screaming behavior. They also start to imitate sounds very easily and can talk and sing quite well.

Spraying it with water every now and then (not taking a shower) helps against the dust.

African grey parrot

The African grey Parrot is the most famous parrot in the world. He is from Africa.

As food you give a rich parrot mixture with dried fruits and regularly fresh fruit and vegetables. Egg food and a nut are also appreciated.

They are very sweet and want to be with you, but they easily bond with one person (the caretaker) and can react one-sidedly towards other people.

Provide plenty of toys and foraging material so they can keep themselves busy in your absence.

They also start imitating sounds very easily, they can sing and whistle and are the best talkers among the parrots. They have the intelligence of a 4-year-old child and can recognize colors and shapes.

Regular spraying with water (not showering) helps against the dust.

Macaws

Who doesn't know those big birds with their beautifully colored plumage. In every zoo they attract the most attention among the birds.

They originate from Central and South America.

On the images you see (from left to right and from top to bottom) the blue-and-yellow macaw, the green-winged macaw, the buffon macaw and the scarlet macaw.

The scarlet macaw and the buffon macaw are endangered in nature.

Each macaw is super sweet when it is hand tamed. The green wing is one of the largest and has a very large bill, with which it can crack all nuts itself.

As food we give a very rich parrot mixture with dried fruits, supplemented with fresh fruit and vegetables and lots of nuts. Egg food is also recommended.

Provide a sufficiently large cage, but a macaw really comes into its own on a free-standing Java tree, decorated with toys, gnawing material and foraging material.

Regular spraying with water (it is allowed in the shower, but the bird must not get soaking wet and certainly not forced) helps against the dust.

Macaws are huge cuddle birds, demand a lot of attention and are very affectionate.

They can learn a few words, but are certainly not talkers.

Macaw hybrids

A hybrid macaw is a cross between two wild color macaws. With this, the most beautiful color combinations are grown. Because of their beautiful plumage they are very coveted.

On the images you see a Miligold on the left (cross between blue and yellow macaw and military macaw). On the right is a Harlequin (cross between a blue and yellow macaw and a green wing macaw).

Each macaw is super sweet when it is hand tamed.

As food we give a very rich parrot mixture with dried fruits, supplemented with fresh fruit and vegetables and lots of nuts. Egg food is also recommended.

Mini-macaws

There are different types of mini-macaws. They all come from South America.

At the top you see the blue-winged macaw (endangered in nature) and below that the chestnut-fronted macaw.

These macaws display the same behavior as their larger friends. Due to their smaller size, they are certainly suitable for people who want a sweet living room bird, but not the large ones.

As food we give a rich parrot mixture with dried fruits, supplemented with fresh fruit and vegetables and lots of nuts. Egg food is also recommended.

They are very playful and affectionate and love to be sprayed.

They are sweet and affectionate birds, who love to snuggle and sit with you. They can even hide in your blouse or jacket.

As food we give a rich parrot mixture with dried fruits, supplemented with fresh fruit and vegetables and lots of nuts. Egg food is also recommended.

They are definitely not talkers.

Alexandrine parakeet

An Alexandrine parakeet comes from South and Southeast Asia. They are related to ring-necked parakeets (which also live in the wild with us) but are larger.

They are fed a mixture for large parakeets, supplemented with fresh fruit and vegetables.

They are very playful birds and very affectionate and sweet. With enough attention, they can be taught a lot. They can also speak a few words and are imitative artists.

They can also scream very loudly when not given enough attention.

Wet spraying against the dust is recommended.
